A strut bar which is also commonly referred to as a strut brace is generally an aftermarket part which is used along with an aftermarket suspension system. One common use of a strut bar is with MacPherson struts with a unibody or moncoque frame such as what is found on the Civic SI. These bars are designed to provide extra strength to the strut tower. Its purpose is to reduce the flex which occurs between the strut towers. The aim with this is to prevent what is commonly referred to as chassis flex which is a common occurrence for cars which have performance aftermarket struts. This chassis flex can actually lead to a warped and misshapen frame without the use of strut bars.
